Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL
Everything RDS hides behind four consoles, in one
DBExplore reads CloudWatch, Enhanced Monitoring, Performance Insights, and the RDS log API through one agent and correlates them with what pg_stat_statements says.
What goes wrong
No shell, no /proc
Without host access, OS metrics exist only in CloudWatch and Enhanced Monitoring, on their own time base, in their own console.
Burst balance and credit cliffs
gp2 burst balance and T-class CPU credits run out quietly. The first symptom is a latency spike that CPU utilization does not explain.
Statistics you cannot see
Query statistics need the right parameter group and the right grants before they show every user's queries. Most fleets have one of the two.
What DBExplore does about it
Cloud metrics, normalized
CPU, memory, IOPS, queue depth, burst and credit balances, and storage headroom aligned with database-level metrics on one timeline.
OS and wait-event visibility
Host-level process metrics and wait events correlated with active session history, without a shell.
Fleet discovery with replica awareness
Instances, read replicas, tag-based grouping, and proxy detection across accounts.
Log correlation without a shell
Error, checkpoint, and autovacuum log lines join the timeline next to the queries that caused them.
Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL: questions we get first
Which RDS PostgreSQL versions?
Every PostgreSQL major version RDS currently offers, including versions under Extended Support.
Do you need an IAM role?
A read-only IAM policy for metrics, describe, and log access. Database access uses a read-only monitoring role, optionally with IAM authentication.
What leaves the database?
Metrics, catalog metadata, execution plans, and query text with literals scrubbed on the agent before it is sent. Parameter capture is off by default. Row data never leaves.
Can DBExplore change anything without approval?
Not by default. Every tenant starts at approve. Disruptive actions always need two approvers, and every mutating action passes a fail-closed policy gate first.
