Azure Database for PostgreSQL
Flexible Server, without the blind spots
Platform metrics live in Azure Monitor, connection limits are enforced by the built-in pooler, and burstable tiers freeze when credits run out. DBExplore watches all three next to your queries.
What goes wrong
Credit exhaustion freezes
B-series instances stop responding when CPU credits reach zero. The database is healthy, the VM is not, and the chart that shows it is in another portal.
IOPS tied to storage size
Throttling is a function of provisioned storage, so a small database with a hot workload hits a ceiling nothing in Postgres reports.
Hard connection limits
The built-in PgBouncer is often mandatory. Pool saturation looks like application timeouts, not database load.
What DBExplore does about it
Azure Monitor, normalized
CPU, memory, storage, credits, I/O percent, replication lag, and connections per node aligned with database metrics.
Log correlation
Restart and throttle events on the same timeline as the queries that hit them.
Subscription-wide discovery
Every Flexible Server across subscriptions, authenticated with Managed Identity, no stored secrets.
Pooler awareness
Built-in pooler depth and wait time next to Postgres connection counts.
Azure Database for PostgreSQL: questions we get first
Which versions?
Every PostgreSQL major version Flexible Server currently offers.
Cosmos DB for PostgreSQL (Citus)?
Detected and monitored with the Citus coordinator and worker signals. See the Citus page.
What leaves the database?
Metrics, catalog metadata, execution plans, and query text with literals scrubbed on the agent before it is sent. Parameter capture is off by default. Row data never leaves.
Can DBExplore change anything without approval?
Not by default. Every tenant starts at approve. Disruptive actions always need two approvers, and every mutating action passes a fail-closed policy gate first.
