CockroachDB

Wire-compatible is not Postgres, and we do not pretend

CockroachDB has ranges, not heap tables, and a planner that is not PostgreSQL's. DBExplore gives it its own metric namespace and nine of its own detection rules instead of forcing Postgres assumptions onto it.

What goes wrong

Postgres tools that lie

A monitor that expects pg_stat_bgwriter or WAL metrics reports nonsense on CockroachDB, or nothing at all.

Contention you cannot see

Intent conflicts and transaction retries are the CockroachDB latency story, and they are not in any Postgres view.

Silent version and node skew

Mixed binary versions and uneven SQL connections per node degrade slowly until a decommission stalls.

What DBExplore does about it

A CockroachDB-native namespace

Ranges, leaseholders, replication factor, and survival goals, never mislabelled as Postgres storage internals.

Contention and GC risk

Contention spikes and garbage-collection windows against storage growth.

Node health

Per-node connection skew, stalled decommissions, and version skew across the cluster.

Coarse plan tracking

Text plans are fingerprinted so regressions are trackable, without claiming Postgres-level plan analysis.

CockroachDB: questions we get first

Do you claim full Postgres coverage on CockroachDB?

No. CockroachDB is a reference engine with its own signals. Postgres-only rules are gated off so they never fire falsely or imply coverage that does not exist.

Cloud or self-hosted?

Both, through the SQL endpoint and the cluster metrics endpoint.

How does the agent connect?

A container, Kubernetes deployment or sidecar, or native package next to your databases, using a read-only monitoring role over a small connection pool with short statement timeouts. No superuser.

Can DBExplore change anything without approval?

Not by default. Every tenant starts at approve. Disruptive actions always need two approvers, and every mutating action passes a fail-closed policy gate first.

Run DBExplore on your CockroachDB.

We onboard teams in small batches. Tell us about your fleet and we will reach out when a seat opens. One email, no drip campaign.
